A workshop for adult learners of all skill levels

This 8-week class offers a focused exploration of the fundamental principles behind effective portrait drawing. Students will develop an understanding of head structure through the study of planes, construction, and proportion, while learning techniques for tonal drawing that bring volume and form to life.

Each session will include instructor demonstrations, structured drawing time, and one-on-one feedback. We’ll take a close look at the individual features of the face, analyzing their forms and spatial relationships within the whole. Emphasis will be placed on careful observation, shape recognition, and capturing the unique character of each model to achieve a convincing likeness.

The workshop will take place in David’s Corrales studio, which is equipped to host a small group in a focused and welcoming environment. Plus, he has really good coffee.

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of facial anatomy and structure

  • Apply the principles of light logic to render form with clarity and depth

  • Use edges effectively to create a sense of atmosphere and naturalism

  • Interpret and express the individuality of the sitter through observational accuracy and expressive mark-making
