At the heart of all of my work, whether a landscape or still life, is a deep connection to Nature. Keen observation of and identification with Nature are my first concerns. I prefer to paint from life, but I also paint in the studio from small plein air studies or from reference photos I have taken myself. My greatest hope is to express not only a visual representation but also the vitality and feeling of Nature and of being in nature. For me, this involves a contemplative creative process where I rely on feeling and empathy, sensitivity to my being, surroundings, and medium, and the artwork’s surface, color, and process to achieve a visceral synthesis. My work has been exhibited and sold throughout the United States and internationally.
