Watercolor
After many years as a potter, watercolor is now my media. To make this transition happen, I took watercolor classes and many workshops. It was a challenge to put what I felt about life and the southwest on paper instead of with clay. To make this transition happen, I took watercolor classes and many workshops. I found using paper and paint every bit as expressive as clay to share my excitement of living in New Mexico. The earth colors here are fascinating, especially to someone who really likes red. After a time of painting the landscape and adobe buildings, I now paint that brief moment taken to smile and appreciate what is in front of me. To me, my paintings are tranquil and speak of happy times.
My watercolors have been accepted into national, international, and local juried shows. Awards have been won. Including Best of Show at the New Mexico Watercolor Society’s Spring show in 2008. Photographs of paintings were in the Winter, 1997 issue of Watercolor magazine and in the Summer 2000 issue of the University of New Mexico continuing education catalog. An article with photos of paintings was in the Albuquerque Journal, West Side edition in 2006. The paintings are shown at Yucca Gallery in Albuquerque, NM. They are also shown at several local juried arts and crafts fairs a year. I’m a Signature member of the New Mexico Watercolor Society. I’m also a member of Friday Painters, Local Color Painters, and National League of American Pen Women.
