Gale Sutton-Barbere

After two-plus decades as a jury psychologist, I became restless, looking for a new direction. in 2007, I bought a printer and printed a few of my snapshots. Saw immediately the enormous gap between what I had seen in my mind and what I had captured on paper. New direction found. I photograph what I feel a strong connection with: the lush beauty of orchids, the immense power of our oceans. I’m drawn to places where the textures and rhythms of our earth dominate, where there is a strong sense of timelessness, an awareness that eons are but seconds of infinite time. I photograph the forgotten stories of Route 66 and the old roads, the small towns, seeking to capture the lingering echoes of community, laughter and strength. Self-taught, I’m sharply aware that there will always be more to learn, more to explore. I look forward to it all.
